- Dr Aswad is a graduate of Aleppo University with Doctor of Medicine (1980). He completed his post graduate training in the United Kingdom in General Surgery and Urology, then Obstetrics and Gynaecology (1982-1989) and was awarded his Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), UK in 1988. He completed his fellowship in Gynaecological Oncology Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, the largest female cancer unit in the United Kingdom (1989-93) and subsequently attained his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Newcastle. Before moving to UAE, he was appointed as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist / gynaecological oncologist and lecturer at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (1993-1998).
On moving to the United Arab Emirates, he was appointed an Associate Professor at the College of Medicine & Health Sciences (CMHS) and Consultant at Tawam Hospital (1989-2006). He later was the Chair of Department in Tawam Hospital (2006-2011). Subsequently, Dr. Aswad established services for Ain al-Khaleej Hospital (2011-2013) as Medical Director during the trust’s start before returning to Tawam Hospital with his re-appointment as Consultant and Chair of Department in Tawam (2013-2019) and as Adjunct Professor at CMHS.
