Summary
Dr Roopali Soni is a British Consultant Neonatologist who has worked at large multispecialty neonatal units in the UK for 12 years and then in Doha for three years. She did her Paediatric training in the south of England and London, followed by speciality training in Yorkshire, UK. Following the award of Certificate of Completion of Training, Dr Soni worked as Consultant Neonatologist at Bradford followed by University College London Hospital, London, which is a centre for complex babies and the delivery unit for those that require treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She subsequently moved to the Middle East in 2018 as Consultant Neonatologist at Sidra Medicine in Doha, which is a high volume multispeciality childrens’ hospital and referral centre with ECMO services for the most complex patients. She has been in receipt of a number of awards, including Innovations Awards at national conferences in the UK.

Apart from routine treatment and management of term and preterm infants on NICU and counselling of high risk pregnancies, Dr Soni’s main areas of expertise are family centred and developmental care, neonatal functional echocardiography, postgraduate medical education and neurodevelopmental follow up for infants and children up to 2 years of age. She has been instrumental in implementing family centred care at several neonatal units and achieving Unicef baby friendly accreditation. As Associate Program Director for postgraduate training in neonatology at Sidra Medicine, she played a key role in developing the curriculums and starting the first neonatal fellowship and the echocardiography training programs. At UCLH, London, she also led the management and follow-up of infants with feeding difficulties and developed her interests in infant nutrition.

In addition to her clinical commitments, Dr Soni also held the post of Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London Hospital and is an instructor at the Neonatal Life Support (Resuscitation council UK) and NRP (American Academy of Pediatrics) courses. She obtained a Masters degree in Child Health from the University of Leeds wherein she performed research work on late-onset sepsis. She is a keen researcher who has led a number of research projects and recruited to several national and international portfolio trials and has been Principal Investigator for local and national trails
