- Summary
- Dr. Kynaston-Pearson qualified as a medical doctor in 2008, having completed his MBChB alongside a First-Class Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Physiology and Pharmacology. He began his clinical training in Oxfordshire, undertaking rotations at the John Radcliffe and Nuffield Hospitals, which provided him with extensive exposure to a wide variety of medical and surgical specialities, as well as paediatrics and general practice. Seeking to broaden his experience, Dr. Kynaston-Pearson spent nearly a year working in emergency medicine in Brisbane, Australia.
Upon returning to the UK, Dr. Kynaston-Pearson continued his early physician training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Birmingham City Hospital. Here, he rotated through various medical subspecialities before choosing to specialise in Rheumatology. He completed his higher specialist training in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine across Nottingham, Derby and Lincoln, eventually qualifying in both fields. During his final year of training, he was appointed Chief Registrar at Nottingham University Hospital Trust, where he worked closely with the Royal College of Physicians on quality improvement projects and developed valuable leadership skills. It was during this time that he developed a particular interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Driven by a passion for education, Dr. Kynaston-Pearson took a year out from his specialist training in 2014 to complete a Masters in Medical Education at the University of Nottingham, earning a distinction. He continues to pursue this interest by mentoring trainees, teaching medical students, and participating in patient education programs.
Dr. Kynaston-Pearson later worked as a consultant at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Trust, where he deepened his expertise in ultrasound and began specialising in sero-negative arthritis. His work led to collaborations with dermatology and gastroenterology in shared clinics and complex biologic decision-making meetings. He also participated in the “Aspiring to Excellence” programme, supported by NHS Transformation and the National Axial Spondyloarthritis Society (NASS), which led to the creation of an Axial Spondyloarthritis MDT clinic. Additionally, he served as president of the regional NASS Branch patient association and was appointed lead for the Rheumatology team in Derby, where he championed multiple improvement initiatives.
Outside of the NHS, Dr. Kynaston-Pearson began private practice at Spire Hospital in Nottingham and worked as a contractor for Medefer, a health technology company providing NHS-approved services. He later became the lead for Rheumatology services at Medefer.
In addition to his clinical work and teaching, Dr. Kynaston-Pearson is actively involved in research and has published his findings in peer-reviewed journals.
