Dr. Abid Showkat Zargar is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with over 10 years’ experience in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He was also the Head of Department of Gastroenterology at Bansal Hospital, India which is a 350 bed premier hospital of central India with an active liver transplant programme. He was instrumental in starting the EUS and ERCP services there. He also worked as Consultant Gastroenterologist in Government Medical College, Srinagar, India. He has subspecialised with a clinical fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP in one of the busiest endoscopic units in India.
In recognition of his contribution in the field of endoscopy, he was awarded the prestigious Asian Young Endoscopist Award (AYEA) in Seoul, South Korea. He underwent a fellowship for advanced endoscopic training in procedures like EUS, ERCP, endoscopic resection of early tumours (EMR and ESD) and endoscopic management of obesity at the Hanyang University Hospital, South Korea. He can perform diagnostic and therapeutic EUS including EUS guided CPN for relief from cancer pain and EUS guided biliary drainage and endoscopic management of early gastric and colonic tumours and endoscopic management of obesity and reflux disease. Prior to joining Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, he was working in Al Zahra Hospital Dubai and Saudi German Hospital, Dubai. He has over 40 publications in peer reviewed journals and has given multiple presentations on local and international forums and is an active member of colon cancer awareness programme
