Dr. Duff is a US trained and Board-certified neurosurgeon, and practised in the Vaud region of western Switzerland prior to joining Mediclinic. Originally from Ireland, he pursued his entire general surgical and neurosurgical training in the United States, where he spent 12 years in practice. He is an alumnus of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, and latterly Tufts University in Boston and was an assistant professor of neurosurgery in the US before relocating to Switzerland in 2004. His area of expertise is in spinal surgery, specifically in minimally invasive, image-guided surgeries, and he is a US patent holder of a surgical robot. He also holds a skull-base fellowship. He is very active in academic circles as an international conference speaker, a former chair of the Spine Section of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) and is published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. He has been based professionally for the past 30 years successively in Ireland, Australia, the USA and Switzerland.
