Dr Ahmed Al-Sharefi is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and a member of Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in the UK and has completed his post graduate training (CCT in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General Internal Medicine) from the North east of England-UK. He is SCOPE certified bariatrician from the World Obesity Federation .
Dr Ahmed Al-Sharefi has 15 years of experience working in different institutions in the UK and UAE with a special interest in obesity management, Andrology and the application of technology in the management of diabetes including insulin pumps and closed loop systems (also known as Artificial Pancreas).
Throughout his career, he has gained invaluable clinical experience working in different NHS hospitals in the UK including a research placement at Imperial College London and Hammersmith Hospital in London in 2019. He published numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, including a book chapter on diabetes and lipids published by Oxford University Press. He also presented his work in several national and international conferences.
Dr Al-Sharefi contributes to the development of national diabetes guidelines as a member of the Joint British Diabetes Society for Inpatient Care Group (JBDS-IP). Moreover, his outstanding achievements have been acknowledged through various awards, including the undergraduate top 10 students award, the Kelly-Young regional prize, best oral presentation prize 2016 and best poster prize in obesity update conference 2017.
Aside from his clinical and research endeavours, Dr Al-Sharefi is an examiner for the Royal College MRCP PACES exam and is regularly involved in teaching endocrinology courses on a national level, demonstrating his commitment to the education and mentorship of future physicians.
