Summary
Hazel is highly qualified physiotherapist having worked in a number of state owned and privately owned hospitals in different provinces of South Africa. She completed her Physiotherapy B.Sc. degree at the University of the Western Cape in 2007. Shortly after her completion she worked in one of the largest trauma units in the country, working very closely with the best trauma surgeons and intensivists. In 2019 she joined the specialised cardiothoracic unit at Christian Barnard Hospital, providing physiotherapy services post cardiac bypass and heart transplant surgeries. Additionally she saw to all the acute and sub-acute elective surgeries of the hip, knee, shoulder etc.
Her passion for improving patient outcomes encouraged her to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Pretoria with a thesis looking at rehabilitation of patients with neurological conditions. Currently Hazel is pursuing her Ph.D. in Physiotherapy with special focus on the rehabilitative needs of patients with Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS).
