Ready to take control of your health journey, with genetic health testing?
At Mediclinic we recognise the significance of genetic health and offer a dynamic range of genetic testing, along with a counselling service which provides insights and support for genetic health issues.
In the realm of healthcare, genetic testing, often referred to as DNA testing, has emerged as a transformative tool. By analysing DNA samples, these tests provide invaluable insights into an individual's genetic personality. These tests can uncover potential health risks, hereditary conditions, and predispositions. This information empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their health, lifestyle, and medical care. Genetic testing plays a pivotal role in personalised medicine, enables proactive healthcare management, and contributes to improved overall well-being.

FAQ’s
What is Whole Exome Sequencing, and how does it differ from other genetic tests?
A: Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) is a comprehensive genetic test that examines the protein-coding regions (exons) of all genes in the human genome. Unlike targeted tests that focus on specific genes or conditions, WES provides a broad analysis of genetic variations, allowing for a more comprehensive assessment of an individual's genetic health.
How long does the entire process take, from the initial consultation to receiving the results?
A: The entire process typically takes 8-10 weeks. After registering your interest, you will have an initial consultation to discuss the package, your medical history, and test suitability. Following the consultation, you will schedule an appointment for sample collection. The testing process itself takes 4-6 weeks, after which you will have a follow-up consultation to discuss your results and next steps.
Can I have my sample collected at home, or do I need to visit a clinic?
A: We offer the option for home sample collection for your convenience. When you schedule your sample collection appointment, you can choose between visiting one of our clinics or having a healthcare professional visit your home to collect the sample.
What can I expect from the genetic counselling consultations?
A: During the initial consultation, a genetic counsellor will explain the Whole Exome Sequencing process, discuss your medical history, and assess your suitability for the test. In the follow-up consultation, the genetic counsellor will interpret your test results, discuss any potential implications, and provide guidance on next steps, such as further testing, medical management, or lifestyle modifications.
How will I be notified about my test results, and who will have access to this information?
A: Once your test results are available, a representative will contact you to schedule a follow-up consultation with a genetic counsellor. During this consultation, the counsellor will discuss your results in detail and answer any questions you may have. Your test results are confidential and will only be shared with you and the healthcare professionals directly involved in your care, in accordance with privacy regulations.
