Monitoring the wellbeing of your unborn child is very important. The fetal medicine unit at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital provides tertiary level evidence-based care for fetuses and their mothers, in collaboration with our obstetricians and neonatologists, to ensurethe best care for mother and baby.
During your pregnancy, your Obstetrician and gynaecologist will normally refer you for a routine scan with the fetal medicine specialist to look for any abnormalities or concerns. We provide effective counselling for prospective parents and timely intervention for fetuses identified as being at risk during pregnancy.
The Fetal Medicine Unit services include:
- Prenatal counselling
- Routine antenatal ultrasound scans
- Dating and viability scans
- 11-14 week scans
- Morphology scans (18-23 weeks)
- Fetal growth and doppler scans
- 3D and 4D ultrasound scans
- Fetal echocardiography
- Screening tests for Down Syndrome
- First trimester screening (nuchal translucency, first trimester scan markers, combined screening with ultrasound and biochemistry, PAPPA and free beta hCG)
- Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT)
- Screening for preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction
- Uterine Doppler combined with maternal biochemistry and previous history
- Diagnostic invasive procedures (chorionic villous sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis)
- Therapeutic procedures e.g. amniodrainage, planned based on the case
