The Rheumatology department provides the following services for patients with rheumatic disorders:
- Management and monitoring of all inflammatory and immunological conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Systemic Lupus disease, Behcets disease and all similar conditions
- Management of other conditions such as gout, pseudogout and other calcified conditions
- Management of conditions such as osteoarthritis, regional pains, non-surgical back pains
- Assessment and treatment of Bone conditions like Osteoporosis, Osteomalacia and periostitis
- Assessment of all types of musculoskeletal aches and pains
- Multidisciplinary role in aiding therapy decision for conditions like Uveitis, Psoriasis, severe eczema, nephritis, interstitial lung diseases
- Inpatient admission of patients with high severity inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions
- Requesting imaging for rheumatic conditions like MRI, US, CT etc and referring to Physiotherapy
- Initiating and monitoring all immunomodulation therapies like methotrexate, Leflunomide, Azathioprine, Cyclosporines and similar therapies
- Make decisions on Biologic therapies for rheumatic conditions and also for other dermatological conditions (multidisciplinary role) and monitor these therapies
- Local steroid injections- intra and juxta articular injection
- Trained to perform caudal epidural injections for lumbar radiculopathy but this service currently provided by other department
