Dr. Patricia (Paddy) Kilian serves as the Director of Academic Affairs for Mediclinic Middle East and holds a dual appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU). Passionate about medical education, she specialises in simulation-based learning and delivers high-quality instruction to undergraduate medical students. Dr. Kilian is also a certified simulation instructor through MBRU. She actively teaches medical interns and undergraduate students using simulation and coordinates the MBRU Year 5 Emergency Medicine course. She is also a faculty member for the Dubai Health MBRU postgraduate certificate in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) at MBRU.
Dr. Kilian plays a pivotal role in overseeing both undergraduate and postgraduate education, and she is the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for the academic affiliation between Mediclinic and MBRU. Prior to her current role, she was the academic coordinator for Mediclinic City Hospital for nearly four years, where she was instrumental in establishing clinical clerkships for medical students.
A qualified medical doctor from South Africa, Dr. Kilian brings a wealth of experience in Emergency Medicine, Aviation Medicine and Trauma. She continues to work shifts in the Accident and Emergency Department at Mediclinic City Hospital, where she previously served as Deputy Head of the Emergency Department for nine years. Before joining Mediclinic, Dr Kilian was a member of the Trauma Unit at Johannesburg Hospital (now Charlotte Maxeke) and a flight doctor for STAR Helicopter Service and Netcare 911 Aeromedical Services in South Africa. She has also held similar roles with the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust in New Zealand and for RMSI in Dubai, UAE. Certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Acute Medical Life Support (AMLS), Dr. Kilian additionally holds a Diploma in Anaesthetics and has professional experience in both Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. Her academic credentials include an MScMed in Emergency Medicine, a BSc (Honours in Biochemistry), and a postgraduate qualification in medical education. She is actively involved with various research projects.
