Dr Shantala Vadeyar is a highly experienced British and Indian trained, RCOG certified Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Dr Shantala graduated with honours from a premier medical college in India in 1989. In 1991, she completed her postgraduate degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was selected for higher training in UK. She obtained her MRCOG in 1993 and FRCOG in 2007. She also successfully completed her Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound (RCOG / RCR certification). She completed her higher training and gained the CCST (Completion of Consultant Specialist Training) from the GMC, UK in 1997. She successfully completed her Subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine with the RCOG, London in 2001 and was appointed as a Consultant in Fetal Maternal medicine and Obstetrics to the University Hospital of Nottingham, UK. She was appointed the Director of the Fetal Medicine Unit in this prestigious UK University Hospital and she was also the Lead for Clinical Governance for the University Hospitals Trust. She was also awarded the Doctorate of Medicine (DM) for pioneering research in the field of Fetal Functional MRI in 2003 by the University of Nottingham. She has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals and book chapters in Fetal medicine. She was on the International editorial board for the “High Risk Pregnancy – management Options”, a very popular reference book for students and practicing OBs.
After working for more than 14 years in the UK, she was invited to India to set up Fetal and Maternal medicine services in the newly commissioned premier hospital, the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai. Here, Dr Shantala worked for 8 years and had an extremely successful and busy OB and Fetal medicine practice. She was invited to numerous conferences and seminars for her vibrant and highly academic lectures. Being a keen educator, she trained many aspiring candidates in Fetal and Maternal medicine. Her strong quality of empathy combined with a sound training and clinical knowledge made her extremely popular with patients and their families. In 2016, she was invited to lead the Fetal and Maternal medicine services for the Cloudnine Group of Hospitals, all over India. She was again successful in this role of Director of FMM services with over 15 Cloudnine hospitals all over the country. She continued her academic and educational pursuits and also did a Fellowship in the University of Barcelona, having collaborated with them with Research projects.
In 2018, she was invited to Mediclinic Dubai, as a Fetal Medicine Consultant. She has been with Mediclinic Hospitals working primarily in Welcare Hospital and also worked at City and Parkview hospitals. In Mediclinic she practices Fetal medicine and has moved to Mediclinic City Hospital from December 2021. She is competent in all aspects of prenatal scanning, diagnosis including invasive procedures and counselling for abnormalities and complex growth issues. She works closely with the team of Obstetricians and other relevant specialists to facilitate good perinatal outcomes in normal and high risk pregnancies. She comes to Dubai with more than 30 years experience and expertise in the field of Obstetrics and Fetal & Maternal medicine from the UK and India.
