Dr. Liani Smit is a highly qualified clinical geneticist based in Cape Town, South Africa. She holds both a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery and a Master of Medicine degree in Medical Genetics with cum laude honours from Stellenbosch University. She was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Medical Geneticists in 2020. As a generalist clinical geneticist, Dr. Smit provides consultations to patients of all ages who are affected by or at risk of genetic or hereditary conditions. Her areas of interest lies in prenatal, neonatal, and paediatric genetics, including rare diseases. In addition to patient-facing consultations, she provides consulting expertise to several laboratories with high-end diagnostic genomic testing offerings, including Mediclinic Precise, a precision medicine initiative. Her current focus areas are reproductive genomics, including non-invasive prenatal testing, and whole exome and genome-based approaches in oncology and rare diseases. Dr Smit is committed to continuous learning and actively participates in international training programs offered by esteemed organizations like the European Society of Human Genetics and the Wellcome Genome Campus. Dedicated to advancing the field of clinical genetics, she has shared her valuable research at both local and international conferences.
