Available at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, Mediclinic Welcare Hospital and Mediclinic City Hospital, the REZUM procedure uses groundbreaking innovation in the form of radio-frequency generated heated steam that ablates prostate tissue to improve benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as prostate gland enlargement.
An enlarged prostate gland can cause uncomfortable urinary symptoms, such as blocking the flow of urine out of the bladder. It can also cause bladder, urinary tract or kidney problems.
This new treatment provides an alternative to the current standard care in people with lower urinary tract symptoms presumed to be secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia. Research has shown the procedure to also provide a quicker alternative to current treatments and has the advantage of being performed as a day case. Traditionally, the primary options for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia are through medications or surgery. The REZUM is a new option for patients to relieve these symptoms.
