Laser hair removal
You can enjoy smooth, hair-free skin without the pain of conventional hair removal methods, thanks to revolutionary laser hair removal technology that allows your skin to remain cool as low laser heat is given to follicles without damaging your skin.
Permanent laser hair removal (LHR) performed at Mediclinic Welcare Hospital’s Outpatient Centre is safe, fast and extremely effective on all types of skin. We do hair removal for both men and women and on all parts of the body, from full back and legs, bikini, full face, eyebrows and beard definition for men.
We use an innovative dual laser approach for the most advanced laser treatments, featuring two distinct laser channels (Alexandrite + Nd:YAG). These employ advanced computerised technology to produce sufficient energy for each laser with 60% less pain than any other hair removal devices in the market today. Each laser precisely targets a specific penetration depth, travels through the root and shaft of the hair follicle simultaneously, treats the full penetration range from the top to the root of the hair, and selectively heats the follicles responsible for hair growth while you stay cool and relaxed. This allows a multi-dimension treatment with no pain and better results for dark, thick hair or light, fine hair.
What does laser hair removal involve?
Laser hair removal aims to reduce unwanted hair on specific parts of the body. Chosen areas are exposed to specially developed laser technology, which is designed to target the hair-inducing melanin found in follicles.
This laser treatment works on most areas of the body and is suitable for all skin and hair types.
What happens at the sessions?
The first session will begin with a consultation and patch test to answer any questions and determine suitability. Once confirmed, the first session will begin on the chosen area, with subsequent sessions taking place at least four weeks apart.
What areas can be targeted?
A choice of small, medium or large areas, or the whole body can be targeted. Please call us for more details.
The result:
Once destroyed, hair follicles do not recover and grow hair. After each session you will see permanent reduction in the number of hairsthat re-grow in the treated area and you will experience more than 80% hair reduction six months after the last session.
The Maintenance:
While it varies from person to person, your dermatologist will observe and evaluate your specific needs for further sessions to maintain hair-free skin.
The number of treatments required for complete and permanent results differ from patient to patient and from one body area to another, but three sessions is average (using LHR which has cut the number of treatments needed in half). Treatments are usually spaced a few weeks apart, there is no recovery time required and all patients are able to return immediately to their normal daily activities.
The doctor will always set up the appropriate parameters for your skin type, hair colour, thickness and location, and will perform a spot test for you to see the immediate results. Following this the full treatment of chosen area will be completed by the laser specialist. A dedicated female laser specialist will perform all female laser hair removal in our discreet, comfortable facility.
You should shave the hair in the chosen area one day prior to your appointment or have eyebrows treated in the salon one day prior. Men should shave their beard on the same day in the preferred design.
LHR has the added benefit of treating and preventing ingrown hairs, acne inflammation and sweat gland infections.
Preparing for LHR
- Stop tanning or sunbathing
- It is also important NOT to shave during your initial consultation for LHR so the doctor can assess your hair type.
- Wait for hair to grow back, especially if you have been plucking, waxing, or using a depilatory (hair removal) cream to get rid of unwanted hair
- Shave the treatment area correctly and use a clean razor to shave the treatment area prior to your procedure.
Follow the tips above to ensure the most effective treatment and reduce your risk of side effects. Pay attention to all after-care instructions as well. You’ll need to stay out of the sun and avoid other hair removal procedures until your skin has a chance to recover.
