The Obstetrics Unit at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital Abu Dhabi offers state-of-the-art, individualised care for women before, during and after childbirth. We believe that all parents have the right to informed choices when making decisions concerning their health and pregnancy. We endeavour to provide a supportive environment, guiding couples through their pregnancy and preparing them in the best possible way for this unique life event. Our maternity services include:

Pre-conception care and pregnancy diagnosis

This involves counselling and medical guidance provided to individuals or couples who are planning to conceive, focusing on optimising health before pregnancy. It includes discussions about lifestyle, nutrition, vaccinations, and managing any pre-existing health conditions. Pregnancy diagnosis involves confirming pregnancy through various tests and examinations.

  • Early pregnancy problems
  • Treatment of early pregnancy complications such as hyperemesis gravidarum (nausea and vomiting), threatened miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies

Hyperemesis Gravidarum (Nausea and Vomiting): This can be addressed through dietary changes, medications to control vomiting, intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration, and in severe cases, hospitalisation for proper management.

Threatened Miscarriages: We offer monitoring and intervention to prevent miscarriage through rest, medication, or procedures depending on the cause.

Parentcraft classes

These are educational sessions or classes designed to prepare expectant parents for childbirth, parenting, and infant care. They cover a wide range of topics including labour and delivery, breastfeeding, newborn care, as well as postpartum adjustment.

Low risk antenatal care

Medical care provided to pregnant women considered to have a low risk of complications during pregnancy, labour, and delivery. Care involves regular check-ups, monitoring the health of the mother and baby, and providing necessary guidance and support.

High risk pregnancy care

Specialised care for pregnant women who have an increased likelihood of complications during pregnancy, such as those with pre-existing medical conditions (like diabetes, hypertension), multiple pregnancies, older maternal age, or a history of pregnancy-related complications.

Foetal medicine including anomaly scans, amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling

Foetal medicine deals with the assessment and management of foetal health and well-being. Anomaly scans use ultrasound to detect any abnormalities or developmental issues in the foetus. Amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling are diagnostic procedures that involve sampling amniotic fluid or placental tissue to detect genetic disorders or chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus.

Detailed anomaly scans

Comprehensive examinations performed during pregnancy to assess the development and structure of the foetus in detail, checking for any potential abnormalities or issues.

Multiple pregnancies

This involves pregnancies where there is more than one foetus, such as twins or triplets. Multiple pregnancies often require specialised care due to increased risks for both the mother and the babies.

Pre-eclampsia

A serious condition characterised by high blood pressure and signs of damage to other organ systems, usually occurring after 20 weeks of pregnancy. It requires close monitoring and management as it can lead to complications for both the mother and baby if left untreated.

Preterm labour

This refers to the onset of labour before 37 weeks of pregnancy. It requires immediate medical attention and management to optimise the baby's chances of health and survival.

Pregnancies in women with medical problems such as diabetes, renal and cardiovascular diseases

Specialised care is needed for pregnant women with pre-existing medical conditions to ensure optimal management of their health during pregnancy and to minimise risks to both the mother and the baby.

Epidural anaesthesia

A common form of pain relief used during labour and delivery. It involves the insertion of a catheter into the epidural space in the spine to administer anaesthesia, effectively reducing pain during childbirth.

We offer a complimentary outpatient appointment with a lactation consultant post-delivery.

Gynaecology

Maintaining gynaecological health is crucial for overall well-being. Our gynaecologists at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital Abu Dhabi offer a wide range of services, from routine check-ups and preventive screenings to specialised treatments for various gynaecological conditions.
