ON THIS DAY, LET’S MAKE SURE WOMEN CAN GET THE RIGHT HELP AT THE RIGHT TIME

Recent evidence shows that:

  • One in four women over 18 years of age may have episodes of involuntarily bladder leaks
  • 30-50% of women experience pelvic organ prolapse post-delivery
  • Endometriosis impacts 6.5 million women in the USA alone
  • 60 – 70% women suffer with incontinence post delivery

Why are the pelvic floor muscles so important:

  • They support the pelvic organ inside the pelvis
  • They maintain continence for bladder and bowel during activities
  • They need to be relaxed in the toilet to empty your bladder and bowel better
  • They contract during sextual function
  • They play a major role during labour to help slide the baby out
  • They are one of the main hidden core muscles

Problems that can occur when the muscles are too tight:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Perineal pain
  • Tail bone pain
  • Rectal pain
  • Difficulty in bowel emptying
  • Constipation
  • Incomplete bladder emptying or weak urinary stream
  • Pain having sexual intercourse

Problems that can occur when muscles are too weak:

  • Bladder leak cough, laugh or sneeze
  • Bladder urgency and frequency
  • Fecal incontinence
  • Constipation
  • Pelvic organ prolapse

Women suffering from pelvic floor issues feel they are alone because of lack of awareness. They do not seek help at right time thinking that pain during sexual intercourse and bladder leaks post-delivery are normal.

On this Women’s Day
Let’s put our hands together to create a community where all women have access to pelvic health education and care
